Bernie Kosar Says He’ll Fix The Browns And Fire Himself If He Fails

Bernie Kosar is a Cleveland institution in many ways. He is the most popular QB to ever play in Cleveland, and probably the best QB to ever play in Cleveland other than Otto Graham. He’s been part of the Cleveland sports universe even after his departure from the Browns and has spent his many retirement years talking Browns for the local Cleveland media. He’s also spent much of that time not pulling punches.

Kosar has been openly critical of the Browns since they were brought back to life in 1999. To be fair, looking at the Browns since ’99 (especially at QB), he’s essentially always been right. He’s also offered to help many times throughout his tenure as a media personality. His arguments are typically not about the current coach or QB, but about deeper rooted problems within the organization.

This week, Kosar was at it again. Kosar was on the Cleveland area sports talk show Tailgate 19 once again criticizing the Browns and openly worrying about the well being of the quarterbacks. He repeatedly expresses concern over the beatings that Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel are taking, which, as a former QB and current sufferer of memory issues, he would understand better than most. On the Tailgate 19 segment during the discussion about the recent devastating Browns loss to the 8-0 Cincinnati Bengals, he once again offered to help, and claimed that he would “fire himself” if he cannot make the team competitive. You can watch the entire video here.

After all these years, it’s sadly hard to take his offer seriously. No one wants to fire themselves, because everyone usually still believes they just need more time. Kosar may be an institution, but he was kicked off of Browns radio color commentary after some uncomfortable jokes at the St. Louis Rams expense. Kosar has already admitted to be suffering from what looks like CTE, so putting a man with memory loss in the drivers seat is probably not the best idea, anyway. Bernie loves the Browns with all his heart, but it’s probably best he stays where he is.
