There’s A Heartwarming Story Behind Cam Newton’s Touchdown Ball From Sunday’s Game

Cam Newton led the Carolina Panthers to their eighth consecutive win to start the season when he beat the Packers on Sunday, but he seems to be making headlines more for his role in #bannergate than for his play on the field.

Lost in the shuffle of the “controversy” surrounding Newton tearing down a Green Bay fans’ sign is the fact that Newton is actually a pretty good dude. After scoring a touchdown, Newton tried to get back the ball he had scored with before Packers defensive end Julius Peppers decided to act like a 5-year-old and chuck it away from him.

Well, Newton chased after it, and ended up giving the ball to Panthers fan Colin Toler, a 6-year-old who recently lost his father.

Now, Newton didn’t actually know that the boy’s dad had recently died, but still, good-guy Cam went out of his way to give his touchdown ball to a little kid who was enjoying the game knowing it would make his day.

As for Colin, he was given tickets along with his grandfather’s to the game since his father was never able to fulfill his promise to take him to a Panthers’ game before he died.

After Newton gave him the ball, Colin became a little bit of a celebrity at Bank of America stadium, via WSET.

“The back people were like, ‘can I take your picture?’ And I was like yeah. And the side people gave me high fives and stuff, it was pretty fun.”

I think we can forgive him for tearing down that banner now, everyone.
