MLB Network Tried To Tell Kris Bryant That He Won The NL Rookie Of The Year But Failed

It’s wasn’t a big surprise or anything, but Chicago third baseman Kris Bryant was officially named the National League’s Rookie of the Year on Monday night. The Cubs’ brightest young star won the award unanimously, as all 30 first-place votes that were cast went to him. Bryant hit .275 with an on base percentage of .369 and a slugging percentage of .488, along with 26 home runs and 99 runs batted in. He also won the NL’s Rookie of the Month twice and made it to the 2015 All-Star Game.

Bryant was supposed to get the news on the MLB Network on Monday night. We say he was supposed to because his ear piece didn’t work for the beginning of the segment while Greg Amsinger was trying to break the news to Chicago’s third baseman. It worked for a second, just long enough for Amsinger to ask him one question, but then it went out again.

Eventually, whatever tech issues that popped up were fixed. The full interview wasn’t nearly as awkward as the first attempt, it was just your standard, run-of-the-mill interview with an athlete.

Once that got all cleared up, the official MLB Twitter account then expressed that it really likes Bryant for reasons other than his ability to hit monster taters.
