A report came out last week that the New England Patriots may have bugged the visitor’s locker room in Foxboro when the New York Jets came to town, which led to an NFL investigation that ultimately meant nothing. Now, more details have emerged about the entire scenario. According to the Boston Herald, a source said that the level of investigation for something like this was “unprecedented.”

Due to a complaint initiated by the Jets, the NFL swept the Jets’ locker room for bugs Sunday and interrogated three Patriots employees during the second quarter of the game, which resulted in a 30-23 victory for the Pats at Gillette Stadium, according to a source.

The source told the Herald that someone with the NFL “demanded to know whether the radio frequencies and stadium operations were performed up to an appropriate standard.” The employee also did a serious investigation into all three employees.

The NFL employee took photographs of each Patriots employee and their identification badges, demanded to check their cell phones and also checked their radios to ensure they were operating through the proper channels.

The league claims that the Jets didn’t request that it swept their locker room, but the Herald does confirm that a bug sweep did happen. The league also told the Patriots that they were cleared of any wrongdoing after the game, something that it said again that Monday.

Hopefully we can all put #lockeroomgate or #bugghazi or whatever we’re calling this one behind us now and just call it another weird chapter in the rivalry between New England and New York.
