It’s been a whirlwind of a day for Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman. Earlier this afternoon, it looked like Chapman was going to be shipped to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade for a pair of prospects, meaning he would leave the only franchise he’s ever played for during his professional career in the United State. Despite it seeming like an inevitability, it fell through, potentially because the Dodgers wanted to drive the asking price down for the closer.

Now, a report has emerged that showed that Chapman had a run-in with the law earlier this year. According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the hard-throwing left hander was involved in a domestic incident with his girlfriend in which he choked her and fired a gun eight times back on Oct. 30.

Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman allegedly fired eight gunshots in the garage of his Miami-area home following an October argument with his girlfriend in which she told police he “choked” her and pushed her against a wall, according to police reports obtained by Yahoo Sports.

Yahoo reports that the incident began when she found something on Chapman’s cell phone. She reportedly “exited the house and hid in bushes following” after the two argued, and there were no arrests made in response to the incident. When Yahoo reached out to the Reds, a spokesperson declined to comment.
