The Houston Astros called up one of their top prospects on Monday, as Alex Bregman made his big-league debut just over a year after he went second overall to the ‘Stros in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Bregman’s whole family was in attendance to watch him play his first game in the big leagues, and the third baseman came this close to having one of the more memorable debuts in recent memory.

Bregman came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth in a 1-1 game against the Yankees with the bases loaded. He got a good swing in on a Michael Pineda offering as it carried out to deep right field, and it looked for a moment like he was about to blow the roof off Minute Maid Park with a grand slam in his first game. Unfortunately for him, the ball lazily died at the warning track, just a few feet short. His family in the crowd was obviously disappointed, and the looks on their faces say it all.

Bregman ended up going o-4 and the Astros lost 2-1, but there will be plenty of more chances for the 22-year-old to sock his first big-league homer and help lead the Astros to the Promised Land.
