If I've learned anything from movies — and you can bet that I have — it's that people with goatees are always evil. Just one more reason why every person outside of Dallas-Fort Worth should be rooting for the underdog Golden State Warriors, who lost a thrilling Game 5 to the Mavs 118-112.
In a game that I actually stayed up to watch, the Warriors trailed by as much as 21 before storming back to take a 112-103 lead with two minutes to play. But Dirk Nowitzki hit consecutive three-pointers, the Warriors got sloppy with the ball, and Baron Davis fouled out on a questionable call to seal Golden State's collapse. Davis finished with 27 points (on 10-of-16 shooting) and nine dimes. Nowitzki led the Mavs with 30 and 12 boards.
Game 6 will be in Oakland on Thursday night, and if the Warriors can't close out there… well, I don't want to think about that. I'll definitely be putting my freelance writing career and sleep patterns on hold to watch. I just want to see Mark Cuban's head explode. Is that so much to ask?
Other NBA news: Raptors still alive! They win to force Game 6, but lose T.J. Ford to stingers in his arms and backup point guard Jose Calderon to an ankle sprain. Talk about Pyrrhic victories. They still have Chris Bosh, though. He actually looks like a velociraptor, so that has to count for something.
