Students From Arizona State Tricked Arizona Students Into Signing A Hilarious Fake Petition

Arizona and Arizona State’s football rivalry dates all the way back to 1899. This Saturday is the 90th meeting all-time between the two programs, and while we don’t have access to everything that has happened between the two universities in the week leading up to the Duel In The Desert, we’re willing to bet that this is the best prank in the rivalry’s history.

The short version: a group of four Arizona State students decided to drive down to Arizona’s campus in Tucson and convince students that the university needs to “go back to Mexico.” Acting as advocates for the fake Proposition 200 from the organization University of Arizona Ballot Legislation Organization WildcatS (or UofA BLOWS), the group claimed that the land the campus is on was not properly accounted for during the Gadsden Purchase in the 1800s. For this reason, the group wanted to acquire as many signatures as possible from current Arizona students that showed that they’re in support of giving the school back to Mexico.

Outside of one guy who ended up signing the petition anyway, nobody seemed to question what was going on. The group even handed out pamphlets with a QR code that redirected students to a page on how to transfer to Arizona State, which is a brilliant piece of trolling. The best part, though, was that Arizona’s student newspaper completely bought the prank and wrote about it in their paper. While the link has since been taken down, you can read the story right here.

It’s going to be really hard to top this prank, but we’re excited to see if Arizona students can get the job done. If not, they’ll just have to hope that the Wildcats can take down the Sun Devils when the two sides face off on Saturday afternoon.
