Bill Belichick Had A Very Bill Belichick Response When Asked If Tom Brady Will Start Week 5

So, Tom Brady will finally serve that four-game suspension for his involvement in the Deflategate kerfuffle, for which the legal battle is finally, mercifully over. With that, and with training camp getting under way, naturally the focus has turned to the football implications of Brady missing time — namely, Jimmy Garoppolo being the signal caller for four games. There’s reason for guarded optimism that he can be an able steward, but what about unabashed, homeriffic optimism? Surely there’s a place for that, right?

Not in Bill Belichick’s world, there isn’t. When one reporter asked if there was any way Garoppolo could play well enough to keep the starter’s job when Tom Brady returns from suspension — a patently ridiculous notion that nonetheless is held as a true possibility by some of New England’s most biased fans — Belichick didn’t even bother hiding his distaste for the question. After attempting to deflect it only to be met with insistence, Bill muttered the same phrase that talk-radio producers must use hundreds of times per day: “Jesus Christ.”

For the millions of people who take joy in watching this already-unhinged fanbase spiral completely out of control, nothing would bring more pleasure than Jimmy looking like a Hall of Famer for four games, only to be supplanted by a couple of games of Brady looking rusty and over-the-hill. It would not be the first time Patriots fans have called for Brady’s job, but after the shouted defenses of his honor in the wake of Deflategate, it would be the funniest time.
