An Eagle At A Dodgers Game Took Independence Day Literally And Flew Away From Its Handler

The Fourth of July is a day to celebrate freedom in the United States of America. You may have celebrated by eating a remarkable amount of hot dogs and macaroni salad, or by swimming in a pool, or by watching fireworks and feeling a little underwhelmed because fireworks stop being exciting once you’re no longer a child.

An eagle decided to use this Independence Day to literally fly to freedom. It was part of a pregame segment during Monday’s Dodgers/Orioles game in Los Angeles, and it was supposed to do the usual bird at a sporting event thing: fly down from the top of the building that it’s in, do a lap or two, get some “oos” and “aahs” from the crowd, and land on some dude’s arm before being escorted to the back.

But this eagle saw a chance to become liberated. So it flew around, making everything seem normal, and then as it was going in for the landing on its handler’s arm, it decided to fake out everyone and fly away. It was beautiful, and while odds are it will not make too many rounds in the bird community since they are birds and are incapable of using the internet (as far as we are aware), ideally it leads to more captive sports birds flying to freedom. Congratulations on setting an example, eagle. Go find a body of water and snag yourself a fish, you deserve it.
