Jan. 9, 2016 — a date which will live in infamy — the Minnesota Vikings’ Blair Walsh suddenly sent a game-winning field goal wide left. It was devastating, it was awful, and it was perhaps the worst special teams gaffe in NFL Playoff history. A made field goal would have given the Vikings their first playoff victory since 2009, a much-needed boost for the franchise. Instead, they left the field stunned, wondering what the hell happened.

Some say it was the holder’s fault for leaving the laces in. Others blamed Walsh’s plant foot, which left him pointing in the direction of the missed kick. Regardless of why it happened, it was bad. It was a bad, bad kick.

Not long after, the memes rolled in and crying Jordan face was plastered all over the Internet. Some were original, others just so-so.

Then on Thursday, video game behemoth EA Sports tossed their hat into the ring with this #TBT on Instagram.

Ruthless.

Thankfully, Blair Walsh is making the best out of a bad situation. He’s not disappearing, he’s not hiding in shame, and he’s not kidnapping Dan Marino for leaving the laces in. He’s visiting first-graders and thanking them for their words of encouragement.

Blair Walsh is a good dude who had a bad day.
