This Boxer Almost Sent His Opponent Out Of The Ring With A Spectacular One-Punch Knockout

We have a few months for something to definitively take this title, but as of today, we have a frontrunner for boxing’s knockout of the year. It came to us via a cruiserweight fight between Murat Gassiev and Jordan Shimmell, one that Gassiev won in the first round by knockout. My goodness, did he get this win by knockout.

Shimmell let his guard down, and Gassiev noticed. Gassiev responded by throwing a killer left hook, one that caught Shimmell on the chin and knocked him out. It was so vicious that Shimmell nearly fell out of the ring – he fell into the ropes, slid down, hit his head against the mat, and just managed to stay on the ring’s apron.

According to ESPN, this knockout helped put Gassiev – who is 22 years old and has a 23-0 record with 17 KOs in his career – right in the conversation for a world title fight. This win made him a mandatory challenger for the winner of the cruiserweight title unification fight between Argentina’s Victor Emilio Ramirez and Russia’s Denis Lebedev.

But for now, let’s just sit back and watch Gassiev go all Gennady Golovkin (with whom he shares a trainer) on Shimmell. If he keeps knocking out dudes like this, you’re going to see a lot more of him in the near future.
