Cam Newton Scored His First Touchdown Of The 2016 Season And Unveiled His New Celebration

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of 10,000 letters being furiously written to newspaper editors across the country, because Cam Newton scored a touchdown and decided to celebrate.

Newton scored at the 3:01 mark of the second quarter of Thursday night’s season opener against Denver. It was nothing wild, he just ran to the edge and managed to sneak the ball into the end zone. He then did this year’s dance, one that was rather subdued by his standards, and ended it with his famous Superman celebration. The touchdown was historic, as this is his 32nd career game with a touchdown through the air and on the ground, which broke Steve Young’s record of 31.

As you may remember last year, Newton decided he was going to celebrate touchdowns by dabbing and doing a few other things. People really, really hated it, and Newton made it a point to call people out who were absolutely furious over the fact that he took a few seconds to celebrate. While he’s always celebrated after scoring, people seemed to really single out his celebrations from the 2015-16 season.

Like always, Newton’s celebration should be taken as lightheartedly as possible. He has more fun playing football than most other people, and if he wants to take a second or five to have some fun, he should. As should every other football player, now that we think about it. The less seriously we take sports, the happier we’ll all be. Let’s all just have a good time watching some football, ok?
