Cam Newton Offers The Final Word On That Silly Super Bowl Press Conference Controversy

Remember when people were mad about Cam Newton’s press conference after Super Bowl 50? That seems like forever ago, especially since in the interim Colin Kaepernick made the decision to not stand for the national anthem. However, there was a time when Newton was at the forefront of the world’s football hot takes because his press conference was short and his answers were brief and clipped. Sure, he had just lost the Super Bowl and could hear the Denver Broncos celebrating, but people were still mad at Newton anyway.

Now, with the next NFL season about to begin, Newton has delivered the final word on his press conference.

Newton’s speech, which comes packaged as a prerecorded monologue, hits a lot of the expected platitudes. Newton says things along the lines of “you live, you learn” and that he doesn’t believe in regretting past actions or wishing to take them back. He’s not perfect, and he’s never claimed to be perfect. Newton, however, is “a person striving for perfection.” Then, Newton turns his attention to the upcoming season, and his relationship with his teammates, and basically just says that the press conference is behind him and his team.

None of it is unexpected, but then again, what would we expect Newton to say? He’s just making it clear that the press conference is in his past, and he’s focused on the 2016 season. Considering how overblown the whole press conference fiasco was, here’s hoping this is truly the final word on the matter.
