A Bunch Of Cam Newton’s Teammates Are Taking Responsibility For The Banner-Stealing Incident

Because everything is a big deal and nobody likes fun these days, Cam Newton has found himself in a bit of hot water after stealing a Packers banner away from a fan at Bank of America Stadium in Carolina on Sunday. Cam defended his decision to snatch the banner, which was hanging over the wall near the Panthers entrance onto the field, by saying this:

“We take pride in having an edge in playing in Bank of America Stadium, of playing in front of the Carolinas each and every week,” Newton said. “I feel it’s my due diligence to protect this house. It wasn’t just about tearing down a sign. It was respect.”

That’s as good an explanation as you could hope for, and a fair warning to opposing fans visiting the Panthers in their house.

Unfortunately, Newton, who has faced a good amount of scrutiny for his showmanship in the past, still is being bombarded by critics who say he’s disrespectful. But, as Cris Carter once told us, it’s important to have a “fall guy” in the NFL. Luckily for the Panthers quarterback, he has multiple.

It seems as if the Panthers are taking this “controversy” very, very seriously. Good for them.
