Christian Laettner Is Still Pretty Angry About What The Fab Five Had To Say About Him

As ESPN amps up its press junket for the “I Hate Christian Laettner” 30 for 30 that premieres after Selection Sunday, Laettner went on ESPN’s SVP & Russillo to discuss the film and, well, the hate people still have for him.

One particular clip stuck out, as the former Duke All-American, Olympian and hero or villain (depending on who you root for) mentioned the Michigan Fab Five and specifically the Fab Five 30 for 30 that came out in 2011. Laettner still seems upset about what was said of him in the documentary, and he was disappointed in Jalen Rose and the other players on that team.

Laettner’s full quote is below:

“The way I dealt with it is, hey me and my buddy can make a movie too and badmouth as many people as we want too. I was surprised that ESPN let them do that. If I wanted to raise some money and start badmouthing people we could do it, either through ESPN or not through ESPN. I was disappointed in that. That’s not what life is about.

But maybe someone told Jalen we want to make a provocative movie and start saying Laettner’s a b*tch and Laettner’s a p*ssy. I guess that’s what life is about. I don’t appreciate it, and you don’t like it. But it’s something that I’ll never do.

“People criticize me for being tough on my teammates, but no one criticizes people who make a movie and are calling people b*tches and p*ssies. Who can’t do that? Anyone can do that.”

The clip Laettner is referring to is this one, and yeah, it certainly doesn’t seem like the Fab Five is quick to add Laettner to their Christmas Card list any time soon.

The film debuts at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, but ESPN has released bits and pieces to tease it out, including this clip about “The Stomp.”
