Boxing Legend Christy Martin Thinks Ronda Rousey Is A Terrible Role Model For Women

Ronda Rousey has a lot of fans out in the world, but former world boxing champion Christy Martin is not one of them. Martin’s fighting career spanned from 1989 to 2012, and she’s credited with legitimizing women’s boxing back when few took it seriously. As someone who knows a little bit about being a good role model and ambassador for a sport, she hasn’t been impressed with what she’s seen from Rousey.

“Ronda Rousey, to me, is the worst public female image that we could ever have out there,” she said in an interview with FightHype. “Simply because she cannot sit here and have an interview with you without cursing word after word after word. I mean come on, we’re here to set an example for women, young women, young girls. People in general. Talk like you’re intelligent. When you have to use every other word as ‘F this and F that’, it shows your lack of intelligence, lack of vocabulary.”

“She needs to take a good look in the mirror,” Martin continued. “Not only did she get her s**t knocked out by a non-puncher, you know … she’s a poor example for a person.”

“I’d give anything to be 10 years younger just to show her. I mean, are you kidding me? Holly Holm knocks you out? Holly Holm punches like a feather.”

Martin has some experience taking Holly’s punches … she was on the losing end of a fight with Holm that went to decision back in 2005. Over ten years have passed since then, though. In that time, Holly switched over to MMA and busted Rousey up pretty bad with her fists, although it was actually one of her patented brutal headkicks that knocked Rousey out. Either way, Martin doesn’t seem to have a lot of respect for either of them, regardless of their accomplishments. And how is that being a ‘good example’ for other women?
