Cancer Stricken Clemson Pitcher Clate Schmidt Has Been Drafted By The Boston Red Sox

Clate Schmidt has had a tough start to his summer. The Clemson University pitcher was diagnosed with cancer in June.
Nodular sclerosing Hodgkin lymphoma to be exact. Per about.com:

“Nodular sclerosing Hodgkin lymphoma affects mostly young adults and adolescents and symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, and within the chest. If detected in the early stages the cancer can be cured chemotherapy and radiation therapy.”

However on the same day Schmidt started treatment he received a ray of sunshine courtesy of America’s oldest pastime.  The Boston Red Sox selected him in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft. Now Schmidt will have Red Sox Nation and the rest of the baseball community cheering him and helping him brush back cancer.
