This past Friday, the UFC’s biggest recent signing, Phil “CM Punk” Brooks sat down with Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten of Inside MMA to talk about how training is going with his head coach, Duke Roufus.
Roufus says he’s really impressed with Punk’s work ethic and says he’s like a sponge, and just absorbs Duke’s coaching. Punk says he’s never entertained the idea of compiling a list of potential guys to fight since his training has only just begun. Duke also says that Punk is easy to mold and teach, similar to Anthony and Sergio Pettis.
After Punk and Duke, Jim Ross joined Kenny and Bas to talk about Punk. JR says Punk is a serious, respectful guy, and a student of the game of MMA. Jim feels that the best fighters are smart, intelligent, with a feel for the game, and he believes Punk has a feel for the game. Ross also believes that a big advantage for Punk is that he isn’t expected to do well, so he’s got a really low bar to over come.
