Hello, violence fans! After a few UFC-only weekends, we’re back with a full slate of punching, kicking, and grappling. There are a lot of cards, so let’s take a look at what’s happening.
FRIDAY
Starting at 4 p.m. EST on Spike TV, Glory 22 will feature a four-man lightweight title contender tournament between Josh Jauncey, Coulibaly Djime, Sittichai Sitsongpeenong and former champ Davit Kiria. The winner will face Robin van Roosmalen down the line in what should be a great contest. Also on the Glory card is a heavyweight feature bout between Zack Mwekassa and Carlos Brooks. The main-event will be a heavyweight title fight as champ Rico Verhoeven defends his title against Benjamin Adegbuyi.
Starting at 5:30 p.m. EST, World Series of Fighting 21, live from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, will kick off prelim fights on the NBC Sports website. The main-card starts at 7 p.m. EST on NBC Sports and features two title fights. Heavyweight Champ Smealinho Rama defends against Blagoi Ivanov, while Featherweight Champ Lance Palmer puts his belt on the line against Chris Horodecki.
From the crazy land of Florida comes BYB Extreme, which is a bare knuckle, underground fighting organization. BYB will hold their first event in international waters (where anything goes!) on Friday night at 9 p.m. EST, only on internet pay-per-view. Ten bucks for eight fights doesn’t sound too bad, even if the fights will be in a weird triangle-shaped cage.
SATURDAY
Another Saturday means another UFC event. This time, UFC Fight Night 68 is taking place in New Orleans, so the crowd should be spectacularly drunk. The fights will begin at 7 p.m. EST on Fight Pass. The prelims continue on Fox Sports 1 starting at 8 p.m. EST. There’s a solid lightweight bout between Joe Proctor and Justin Edwards, a welterweight scrap with Brian Ebersole taking on Omari Akhmedov, and a heavyweight clash between Shawn Jordan and Derrick Lewis.
The main-card is also on Fox Sports 1, starting at 10 p.m. EST. At bantamweight, we have Cisco Rivera taking on Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres, there’s a solid lightweight fight between Dustin Poirier and Yancy Medeiros. The co-main-event is a heavyweight fight between Matt Mitrione and Ben Rothwell, while the main-event is a middleweight contest between Dan Henderson and Tim Boetsch.
HBO Boxing: Miguel Cotto vs. Daniel Geale
Finally, the weekend of fights concludes with a middleweight boxing clash as champ Miguel Cotto defends his title against Daniel Geale. That event will start at 10:30 p.m. EST on HBO.
