The last time that Dennis Rodman went to North Korea, he learned a very important lesson. When you make that kind of trip to a place that nobody else has access to because the country’s dictator has been cut off from the rest of the world for what are believed to be the worst human rights violations on Earth, people are going to ask you A LOT of questions about politics. Needless to say, Rodman didn’t handle it very well, despite his demands of deserving a Nobel Peace Prize.
So when Rodman spent the last several days in North Korea again, this time for a supposed goodwill trip with some former NBA players and other American basketball players, did he use what he learned from that lesson and better prepare himself for the scrutiny? Hell no. Instead, he blew up on CNN New Day’s Chris Cuomo and he made the rest of the American players completely regret the trip, as they basically learned that it wasn’t for good will, as much as it was all for Kim Jong-Un’s birthday.
Tell us what you learned again from all of this, Dennis.
“I want to first apologize to Kenneth Bae’s family,” Rodman, 52, said Thursday in a statement released by his publicist Jules Feiler. “I want to apologize to my teammates and my management team. I also want to apologize to Chris Cuomo.” (Via CNN)
Come on, man. You can do better than that. Blame it on the world’s greatest excuse for doing something stupid.
“I embarrassed a lot of people,” said Rodman, who traveled to North Korea with other former NBA players for a basketball game against a North Korean team. “I’m very sorry. At this point I should know better than to make political statements. I’m truly sorry.”
He said the day of the interview had been “very stressful.”
“Some of my teammates were leaving because of pressure from their families and business associates,” he said, adding that his dream of “basketball diplomacy was quickly falling apart.”
“I had been drinking,” he said. “It’s not an excuse but by the time the interview happened I was upset. I was overwhelmed.”
See? He’s totally sorry that he once again went to North Korea to stroke an evil man’s ego, completely ignoring the people in horrific labor camps that the rest of the world has been protesting for so long, and the only reason he snapped over not knowing a thing about Kenneth Bae’s situation, other than what his BFF Kimmy told him, was because he was wasted.
But talking about what a colossal A-hole Rodman is for this constant idiocy is beating a dead horse. In order to really make people understand what’s happening here, we need to put faces to the situation. And I don’t know about you, but I can’t let Rodman’s actions slide this time, knowing what he’s done to Sleepy Floyd.
