Cris Cyborg Returns, McGregor Vs. Mendes, And More: Combat Sports Live Discussion

Holy cow, gang! We’ve got a stacked weekend* of fights! There are five titles at stake, so let’s figure out what’s going on when.

THURSDAY

Invicta FC 13

Invicta FC 13, live on UFC Fight Pass starting at 11 p.m. EST only has seven fights on the card, but there are three titles at stake. There’s Herica Tiburcio defending her newly won Atomweight Championship against Ayaka Hamasaki, then Tonya Evinger and Irene Aldana will vie for the vacant Bantamweight Championship. The main event sees the return of Cris Cyborg, as she puts her Featherweight Championship on the line against Faith Van Duin. Invicta FC 13 should be a great card!

SATURDAY

UFC 189

Hoo boy, it’s the big one. There was a slight schedule change, but this card still looks rock solid. The prelims kick off at 7 p.m. EST on Fight Pass with two fights, then things move to Fox Sports 1 starting at 8 p.m. EST. Undefeated Cody Garbrandt takes on Henry Briones, while Mike Swick has his first fight since the end of 2012, as he faces Alex Garcia. In the People’s Main Event, two gangly violence monsters will go at it in the welterweight division as Tim Means squares off with Matt Brown. That should be a rad fight!

The main card starts at 10 p.m. EST, on PPV. Things kick off with Thomas Almeida facing Brad Pickett in bantamweight action, while Gunnar Nelson and Brandon Thatch look to get back in the win column against each other in the welterweight division. Dennis Bermudez and Jeremy Stephens look to climb the featherweight ladder in the last three-round fight of the night.

The co-main event is a Welterweight Championship fight, as Robbie Lawler defends his belt in a rematch against Rory MacDonald. The main event is an interim Featherweight Championship fight, with Conor McGregor facing Chad Mendes. Wow, that’s an awesome card!

SUNDAY

TUF 21 Finale

It’s TUF finale time, except there really aren’t many TUF 21 fighters on this card. The prelims start at 6:30 PM ET on Fight Pass, with a single bout, then move to 7 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 1. The main card begins at 9 p.m. EST with some decent bouts. We’ll get the UFC debut of former Invicta FC atomweight champ Michelle Waterson, plus Jorge Masvidal takes on Cezar Ferreira, plus Hayder Hassan of American Top Team faces Kamaru Usman of the Blackzilians to determine the individual winner of TUF 21. The main event is a welterweight clash between Jake Ellenberger and Stephen Thompson, which should be pretty solid.
