The Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott Already Has The No.1 Selling Jersey In The NFL

Ezekiel Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Dallas Cowboys this year, making him the highest-picked running back since Trent Richardson. Luckily, the two backs could not be more different — Richardson is a one-dimensional bruiser back, Elliott is as versatile as they come and with top-end speed to burn. Perhaps more crucially, Richardson was drafted by the Browns and Elliott was drafted by the Cowboys.

Why does that make such a big difference? Well, for one, he’s got more offensive weapons surrounding him than Richardson ever did, meaning he won’t be plowing into a stacked box over and over. More importantly, the Cowboys have the large and loud fanbase to make Elliott a star the moment he steps on the field — and apparently they aren’t even waiting that long, making him the NFL’s top jersey seller since he was drafted in April. Not the top selling rookie, the top seller period.

Of course, just because Elliott comes in with a different draft profile from Richardson doesn’t guarantee he will outperform him on the field. All those 21 jerseys could very well look silly in a couple of years — after all, it wasn’t so long ago that people had sworn off picking running backs in the first round because their likelihood of busting outweighed the relative value they can add versus a late-round pick. But Zeke has all the makings of a stud, and now he has the support of a rabid fanbase behind him.
