The Best Waiver Wire Picks To Scoop Up For Week 16 Of Fantasy Football

This is it. You’ve rolled past the semis, dude. You’re now either playing for a relatively satisfying third-place spot (possibly cursing the football injury gods for what they’ve done to Antonio Brown), or you’re in the championship game. At this point, FAAB budgets are low, the waiver wire is thin, but there are still plays to be made before fantasy glory is tightly secured and then held to your chest like a newborn baby that will only make you proud no matter how many years pass.

Good luck to you in this fantasy football championship week.

Waiver Wire

SF WR Marquise Goodwin: Since Jimmy Garoppolo took over the 49ers offense, Goodwin has been a no.1 receiver. Full stop. He’s not the gadget player he was billed to be, he isn’t the player the Bills thought he was. He’s a damn good, damn fast wide receiver that’s catching everything thrown his way. 39 targets over the last four weeks, 28 catches, just under 400 yards. If he was scoring touchdowns, he’d be the second coming of Will Fuller’s second coming. He’s still available in a few leagues and can win you a title. Play him over Mike Evans, any of the Packers receivers (even with Rodgers), and frankly, just about everyone.

PHI QB Nick Foles: This Eagles offense is very good. The Eagles have a very good offensive system. The Eagles, even without MVP candidate Carson Wentz, could possibly still win a Super Bowl, or at least lose to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, with Nick Foles under center.

Granted, Foles went up against the Giants, who have been giving out touchdowns as early Christmas gifts to any offense that opposes them, but now the Eagles play the Raiders, who are nearly as porous.

PIT WR JuJu Smith-Schuster: Antonio Brown is out for at least the next two weeks with a slight tear in his calf, now in comes a healthy Smith-Schuster who has only improved as the season’s gone on. Taking over for brown somewhat early against the Patriots Sunday night, he had six catches for 114 yards and should see tons of targets with Brown out. He’s worth a flex with WR2 upside. Hell, maybe even WR1 upside. But like anything, it’s championship week and a team that likely doesn’t need Smith-Schuster in the lineup got you here. We get it.

JAX QB Blake Bortles:This is more for the daily fantasy players, because in a few weeks you’ll see reports that go something like: “80 percent of championship fantasy teams had Tom Brady as the starting quarterback” or something along those lines, but there are some people out there looking for help. If you can’t get Foles, Bortles has defied all negative expectations and put up QB1 game after QB1 game with a rag-tag group of receivers. His three touchdown, 326 yard game against Houston shows that he has what it takes to get points against San Francisco in Week 16.

SD WR Tyrell Williams: Keenan Allen will most likely miss Week 16 after suffering a back injury, now Travis Benjamin and Tyrell Williams are taking over. Both are stressful plays for Week 16, but Williams has seen a good amount of volume over the past two seasons with Allen in and out of the lineup, but treat them as WR3s at best.

LA Rams WR Robert Woods: He’s back in the lineup and once again a WR1 for the rams. After missing multiple weeks, he rebounded with 6 catches for 45 yards and a touchdown on seven targets, lowering the fantasy value of everyone but Todd Gurley and Jared Goff around him. Still, he’s proving that even with a low-yardage game, he’ll get his. He now has seven games in a row with double-digit output in PPR leagues.
