A Fighter From Britain Finally Ended His Obnoxiously Long Losing Streak After Almost Four Years

Andy “The Immortal” Cona started his mixed martial arts career back in 2011, and he has something in common with me. Since then, neither of us have won a single fight. Cona has gone 0-21, with 11 (T)KO and 10 submission losses. All of his defeats have come in the very first round, and he’s spent a grand total of 37 minutes inside the ring or cage, which averages to about 1:45 per fight. He’s basically the reverse Ronda Rousey (which I guess is just Bob Sapp). However, something strange happened in his 22nd fight.

CONA WINS! CONA WINS! CONA WINS! Cona took on Darren Wilkinson, defeating him by TKO in just 20 seconds. Afterwards, Cona gave one of my most favorite post-fight statements:

“I love you all with all my heart, now let’s get pissed.”

But what about Wilkinson, the man who put the 1 in 1-21? Darren was making his pro debut in that fight, having gone 0-1 on the amateur circuit. On one hand, Cona proved that hard work, perseverance and desire can overcome limitations in skill and technique, but on the other hand, maybe Wilkinson should get like five more day jobs and hang up his gloves.
