Could Floyd Mayweather Really Make ‘Easy Work’ Of Gennady Golovkin?

Floyd Mayweather retired after he beat up on Andre Berto in a fight that no one watched. With the win, Mayweather moved to 49-0 on his career, which is insane, but let’s be honest: 50-0 looks way better than 49-0.

So for the next [however many months until Mayweather decides to come out of retirement] months, people will speculate on a possible fight for Mayweather to push his career record to 50-0. One person whose name gets thrown around a lot is Gennady Golovkin. GGG is one of the biggest badasses on the planet, as he has accrued a career record of 34-0, holds four separate titles, wants to fight Mayweather, and punches people really, really hard.

Basically, if this fight were to happen, he would provide one of the biggest challenges of Money’s career. There’s just one problem – if Mayweather were to hypothetically come out of retirement, he wouldn’t want to fight an opponent as big as Golovkin. The Kazakhstani is a middleweight while Mayweather said he struggled to get to 147 pounds for light middleweight fights.

But of course, because he’s Floyd Mayweather, he has zero doubt in his mind that he would take GGG out if they ever ended up fighting.

“I can barely make 147, so how am I gonna fight at 160?” Mayweather asked. “Triple G, not being disrespectful, but he’s straight up and down, no special effects. That’s easy work.”

There have been rumbles of a Money vs. GGG fight that would bring Mayweather out of retirement in the past, and it would totally be one worth tuning into. Hopefully this eventually happens, because watching Mayweather dance around while Golovkin tries to punch him into the third row would rule.
