The French Gymnast Who Gruesomely Broke His Leg Was Dropped By Paramedics

The Rio Olympics couldn’t have treated French gymnast Samir Ait Said worse. In the opening day of competition, the Olympian’s vault sent him flying through the air in hopes of an Olympic medal, but his dreams were crushed when an awkward landing snapped his leg. To make matters somehow worse, this was the second time the athlete had broken his leg in devastating fashion, as he had a similar, horrific, injury when preparing for the 2012 games. To add insult to injury, paramedics dropped Said as he was being moved into the ambulance.

It’s like something out of a cruel episode of The Simpsons. Imagine the pain shooting through his leg, which didn’t look to be set, as he crashes to the ground.

Adding to the heartbreak, according to SB Nation, Samir Ait Said had qualified for the Men’s Rings finals, which means he had a very real chance to medal after having his 2012 games ripped from Said thanks to a similar injury. Hopefully, the 26-year-old can recover in time for the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo, but it will certainly be an uphill battle.

We wish him the best of luck in his recovery.
