Allowing Fans To Bring Guns Into Seahawks Games Seems Like A Horribly Stupid Idea

In the Washington state legislature, three Republicans have proposed a bill preventing companies or local governments from prohibiting concealed firearms in sports stadiums, such as that of the Seattle Seahawks or Mariners. If it passes, that means locales wherein tens of thousands of people (often drunk) in close proximity will be forced to allow licensed guns into an environment conducive to loud (often drunk) arguments that turn violent.

The gun debate is at a rather strange place in America, wherein many people want desperately to control how firearms make their way into the American population, but some try not just to defend them, but expand their presence in society. It’s a strangely offensive strategy to take, for some to demand that guns be allowed in more and more places as others seek to erase even the hint of them. That the former push has now expanded to attempt to introduce guns to an already unpredictable environment is worrying.

The NFL is extremely restrictive when it comes to what’s allowed in stadiums, and guns are number one on their banned list. The proposed bill presumes to override the NFL’s laws, but if it’s passed, it would be quite something to see the league put its bullying political power up against a state law.
