A High School Football Player Was Killed While Shielding Three Girls From Gunshots

Zaevion Dobson, a 15-year-old high school football player from Knoxville, Tennessee, was killed by gunfire on Thursday after shielding three girls from the shots in what police are saying is likely a gang related shooting.

Dobson’s brother, Zack, told WBIR that he and his brother were just sitting on a porch when three “random dudes” came walking toward them, and that’s when Zaevion Dobson covered up three girls also on the porch and was shot and killed. None of the girls were injured.

“He was laying there, and I just pick him up and put him in my arms. He was dead,” said Dobson. “Unfortunately he wasn’t lucky, but he saved two lives.”

“Why would you shoot at random bystanders. For nothing. We were just sitting there chilling; Zae, he was an awesome kid awesome brother. Just know that I miss him. I miss my brother.”

The violence reportedly started because of a shooting earlier in the day on Thursday, when a 46-year-old named Lisa Perry and an unidentified 10-year-old were shot at in their home. Perry had injuries and was taken to the hospital but neither were killed.

It was after that that Perry’s son Brandon, and several other men, are believed to have gone driving around Knoxville randomly shooting, which is how Dobson was killed.

Perry was found by police later that night with several gunshot wounds after crashing his vehicle into an apartment building. He died hours later at the hospital.
