Joseph Randle entered the 2015 season as the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys. He started the first six games before the team eventually decided to release him. According to the Dallas News, Randle’s involvement with sports gambling played a role in the team cutting him.

On Nov. 3, a combination of issues led the Cowboys to release Randle. In addition to showing signs of mental instability, he had been involved in placing wagers on sporting events during the 2015 season, sources said.

“All of that became apparent to us right during the season,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said last week from a Senior Bowl practice in Mobile, Ala. “Not before the season. It became real acute, a combination of things. Some issues … became more apparent.”

Jones was asked if any evidence showed that Randle bet on any NFL games.

“At this time, no,” Jones said.

Jones said there’s no evidence that Randle, who was arrested Monday morning on an outstanding speeding warrant, compromised any Cowboys games this season due to his gambling, although Randle’s off-field issues may be the downfall of his career.

In October 2014, Randle was arrested for shoplifting; in November 2015, he was arrested in a Kansas City casino for allegedly being drunk and disorderly two weeks after he went missing from the Cowboys.

The NFL has yet to open an investigation into Randle’s alleged involvement in sports gambling. The Cowboys want to get the 24-year-old help, but he has refused.
