The Johnny Manziel Saga Continues With A Rumor Involving The Dallas Cowboys

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of Johnny Manziel’s life. Every week, it’s a different story. Every day, there’s a new wrinkle to the Johnny Football saga. Earlier this week, a rumor surfaced saying ownership was pressuring coach Mike Pettine to start the former A&M star. That rumor was quickly squashed when Pettine announced Austin Davis as his No. 1 on Wednesday. So, the end is nigh for Manziel, right? His days in Cleveland have to be numbered.

Well, in the words of Lee Corso, “not so fast.”

Via Cleveland.com:

“We’ll revisit this (decision),” Pettine said. “These are two players that we both want to see play is the bottom line. I don’t want to declare, ‘hey, this is what it’s going to be here on out.’ These are two young quarterbacks that have upside and we want to see what that upside is. So Austin’s the guy for this week.”

So, this ridiculous drama will continue every week until the end of the season. Hooray!

In other more fascinating news, ESPN’s Adam Schefter jumped on the “Manziel to Cowboys” bandwagon, a popular theory that’s been floating around since the beginning of the season. He cites the Romo injury and the Browns growing disinterest with Manziel and his off-field issues as the most compelling factors.

…and the Cowboys, a team in which owner Jerry Jones clearly debated drafting Manziel before he opted for sturdy offensive lineman Zack Martin.

Dallas made the right call then, but it could have another chance here on Manziel following a season in which Dallas has struggled to line up a reliable starter or dependable backup. With Romo’s durability in question, some around the league believe Jones could again have interest in Manziel. It would be very Jerry-like, too, for him to make a play for Manziel this winter.

Yeah, this is totally going to happen. Jones is going to give the Browns several draft picks in exchange for a QB who hasn’t proven he can handle himself off the field, let alone one who can handle an aggressive defense. And we’ll spend the entire summer debating whether Romo is past his prime and whether it’s Johnny Football time in Dallas. Then we’ll watch him squander away his chance when Romo breaks his collarbone for, like, the third time in two years. And then someone will release pics of Johnny at a Vegas club the night before a game and, yeah, this is totally going to happen and we’re totally going to love every second of this debacle.

Jerry Jones and Johnny Manziel, together at last, together as two.
