Jon Jones Has A Wonderful Story About Fighting A Teammate In The Middle Of Winter

Dan Le Batard had Jon Jones on his show Highly Questionable, and the current interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion told a story about some fights he had in the snow when he was becoming a JUCO national champion at Iowa Central Community College.

Before his MMA career began, Jones was actually a high school state wrestling champion in New York, and went to school first out in Iowa. Apparently there’s not much to do in central Iowa, and maybe not too many African-Americans, because Dan Le Batard seems intent on asking how Jones was received at school and how furious the fights were on his JUCO wrestling team. It’s an oddly focused line of questioning that gets to the story at hand, but eventually, Jones goes into a tale about one of the other wrestlers at ICCC knocking him down in a boxing match they had after practice.

Embarrassed, Jones vowed revenge and a feud began between the two, which ended in the middle of winter when Jones “took him to the ground and ground-pounded him in a bank of snow.” Which, I mean, if you’re going to be taken to the ground, isn’t the worst thing in the world. At least a snowbank provides some cushion.
