A Junior Hockey Linesman Punched A Player, Then Got Attacked By A Trainer

Fighting in hockey isn’t all that uncommon, even at the junior (age 16-21) level. What is uncommon, however, is seeing a hockey official get in on the action by throwing some fists of his own. Even more rare is to see a trainer hop off the bench and angrily attack an official after watching the zebra punch a player.

But that’s exactly what played out during a recent London Lakers game in Ontario after players engaged in a heated brawl. Apparently not pleased with the level of cooperation he was receiving from one of the players as he was trying to break up the scuffle, one of the linesmen decided his best course of action would be to enforce some physical justice by shoving the player and then delivering a blow to his head.

Obviously, this is generally frowned upon for adults employed to keep order during sporting events, so those who saw it unfold — including players, coaches, and fans — were pretty upset about it. Nobody was more upset than the one of the trainers, however, as he jumped onto the ice and made a beeline straight for the official who assaulted one of his players.

Considering he was wearing sneakers and not skates, you’ve gotta give it up for the trainer for his solid pursuit and takedown of the linesman. That takedown led to this scene, which basically sums up how weird hockey is.

Thankfully, it appeared that everyone involved got up and walked/skated away without serious injury, which is a silver lining after they made themselves look like a bunch of dumbasses.
