Watch Detroit’s Old Buildings Become Urban Ski Slopes In ‘Tracing Skylines’

Tracing Skylines is a documentary from Poor Boyz Productions that follows five professional skiers on their “trip of a lifetime.” For Karl Fostvedt and some friends, that trip is to Detroit, and while that sounds like an odd destination for a pro skier, this trio is into something called urban skiing, which is basically skiing in and on top of buildings. What better place to take advantage of some old, empty buildings and the cold weather for urban skiing than in Detroit?

Of course, I’m not sure how people in Detroit feel about the remnants of their once-glorious economy being used as props for some powderheads, but if you’re looking for a positive spin, maybe this can be the start of something new for Detroit. Think about it – urban ski lodges that used to be motels, and the 80s ski movies can come back to life with the Motor City as the new cold weather Spring Break destination. Go ahead and give it a shot and let me know how it turns out.
