The Irish Tourist Who Fought Off An Armed Turkish Mob Speaks About The Brawl

You may remember seeing video of Mohammed Fadel Dobbous, a Kuwaiti-Irish tourist, in Turkey fighting off a gang of angry and armed men in the middle of a street. Footage of the incident went viral earlier this year, sparking a lot of questions from viewers, some of which Dobbous has finally answered in his first interview since the brawl.

Dobbous spoke to Turkey’s Show TV and confirmed that the entire raucous started over spilled water. Yes, spilled water. As you can see in the video above, Dobbous attempted to retrieve water from a refrigerator when several water bottles tumbled to the ground below. That’s when an angry mob surrounded the man before pushing him into the street and attempting to beat him with various items, including what appears to be a stick and a stool. Despite the weapons, Dobbous insists he wasn’t scared.

“They should fight like men,” he said. “You don’t have to come at me with weapons. Come at me with your hands.”

Miraculously, Dobbous, who has boxing training, managed to escape with just an injured hand and a dislocated shoulder, but he also got his licks in. During the brawl, he calmly placed his sunglasses on his head before striking one man in the face so hard, it sent him crumpling to the ground and knocked his teeth out.

So, I guess the lesson to be learned here is don’t cry over spilled water. Otherwise, you might get your face bashed in by a badass tourist with no fear.
