A Ruth’s Chris In Ann Arbor Will Probably Lose A Ton Of Money Due To Michigan Football

Michigan football did terrible, terrible things to Rutgers on Saturday night. The Wolverines beat the Scarlet Knights, 78-0. Seventy-eight to zero. This is insane, obviously, as is…

  • …the fact that Michigan ran for 481 yards and nine touchdowns.
  • …the fact that Rutgers had two first downs.
  • …the fact that Michigan out-gained Rutgers, 600-39.
  • …the fact that Rutgers’ punter accrued 603 yards on 16 punts.

The entire box score is worth fawning over because it’s completely ridiculous. But everything comes back to that scoreline, as 78-0 seems like it should be impossible.

No one outside of New Jersey is more upset about this than the folks at the Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Ann Arbor. This seems like a surprise, because you’d imagine that a local business would be happy for its football team blanking an opponent in a game where they score 78.

But no, bad times are on the horizon for the Ann Arbor location of the popular chain steakhouse. That’s because they have a promotion in place where fans will get Michigan’s point differential from that Saturday’s game off of their bill.

This means that everyone who goes to the Ann Arbor Ruth’s Chris this week will get 78 percent off of their bill. This is the perfect way to bankrupt a business and proof that you should never ever ever EVER do something like this when your team still has to play Rutgers. And it’s possible things get worse next week (assuming the promotion isn’t canceled or the restaurant doesn’t have to close down because they’re giving away food at a 78 percent discount this week), as the Wolverines will host the 1-4 Illinois Fighting Illini.

If you’re going to Ann Arbor and want to stop by this Ruth’s Chris during the next few days, have a ball. Just make sure you leave a good tip – even if your meal runs you $22, that’s usually a $100 bill, so tip like you just dropped a c-note on food.

UPDATE: Ruth’s Chris updated its original post to clarify that this promotion only applied for a discount of up to 50 percent off. While that’s still cool, it’s not quite as good of a deal as getting nearly 80 percent off on a steak dinner. Still, despite some Facebook commenters being upset, the good people of Ann Arbor are psyched for a discounted meal.

As the old saying goes, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but there is such thing as a heavily discounted dinner at the Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Ann Arbor, Michigan.” Or something like that.
