Mike Bell, a local sports radio host for 92.9 The Game in Atlanta, came under fire on Wednesday after he tweeted sexist comments toward ESPN baseball analyst Jessica Mendoza, who was calling Tuesday night’s Wild Card game between the New York Yankees and Houston Astros. On Tuesday evening, Bell began tweeting about Mendoza — a two-time Olympic gold medalist for softball and ESPN’s first ever female baseball analyst — and then proceeded to use a line from the movie Anchorman by referring to Mendoza as “Tits McGhee”:

Bell went on for several hours defending his statements and as no surprise, it didn’t go very well — Bell kept digging himself a deeper hole with each response.

Bell tweeted an “apology” of sorts late Tuesday evening, but clearly the damage had already been done.

The Atlanta Falcons, whose games are broadcast on the station Bell works for, took to Twitter to address Bell and his comments:

On Wednesday, Bell read a pre-taped statement on air and has been suspended by 92.9 for an unspecified period of time. per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Bell’s Twitter account has been silent since late Tuesday evening, thankfully.
