A Florida High School Football Game Comes To A Frightening Halt After Gunfire Erupts Nearby

The Miami high school football game between Miami Central and Carrol City came to a screeching halt after gunfire erupted nearby the stadium. The incident happened with a little under 3 minutes left in the game and prompted students on the field to rush off and hit the ground. Brandon Odoi captured some of the chaos from field level, showing students literally crawling off the field to avoid any possible injury:

Others in the stands seemed less inclined to exit in haste, capturing the panic on the field as confusion seemed to spread over the rest of the crowd.

WSVN news in Miami provides some background detail about what possibly happened in the incident, although the details are in dispute:

Miami-Dade Schools Police and Miami-Dade Police responded to the scene located at 11380 N.W. 27th Ave. at approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday.

The football game between Carol City and Miami Central high schools was underway at the time of the reported shooting.

Officials said it is unclear if the gun shots were fired inside or outside of the stadium. There have been no injuries reported as of yet.

Police currently have five suspects in custody.

Deadspin reports that WTVJ claims several gunmen were actually inside of the stadium and confirmed that several were taken into custody. They also provided a video from an eyewitness on the scene, describing “crossfire” and the possibility that some knew the incident was about to happen. Quite the frightening scene considering the recent events in Paris, but also just a slice of life for some areas of the nation. No injuries were reported.
