Jake Guentzel is playing his first ever NHL game tonight and his family is freaking the hell out over it. The Pittsburgh Penguins forward joined the team just hours before the Stanley Cup Champions took on the New York Rangers. He wasted no time and scored his first career goal on the first shift of the game.

The cameras were ready to show his family some love, which was in attendance for the start of his NHL career. Instead, they caught all hell breaking loose.

From left to right, we have Shocked Dad, Pumped Brother, and Overjoyed Mother. Quite the happy family. Guentzel’s brother, Ryan, poked fun at himself on Twitter after he caught video of the family’s celebration.

Playing on a line with Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel is bound to get you some action, but Guentzel is making it happen all on his own 62 seconds after the puck dropped. That’s a good burst of speed down the wing and a nice shot on that beat Anti Raanta low.

Scoring a goal in your first career shift puts you in good company if you’re a Penguin. Legendary forward Mario Lemieux famously did the same as a rookie, and he won a few Cups and now owns the team.
A few shifts later Guentzel scored again, this time on a rebound after a deflection from Evgeni Malkin.

That’s two goals in a period, which is a pretty good start to a game for anyone. This time, his family was much more subdued in their celebrations. After all, it’s old hat for them by now.

Old pros, all of them.
