The Chargers announced on Friday that they are staying put in San Diego and not moving to Los Angeles as was originally assumed. Their fans are pumped, as would be expected. You know who else is? Quarterback Philip Rivers.

Rivers, who went public with concerns about both the franchise and his own family relocating to L.A. prior to this past season, feels, in his own words, “fired up” about the Bolts remaining in their home city since 1961:

“Obviously I’m fired up, as I know the guys will be in that building,” he said shortly after the announcement. “Hopefully the fans are as fired up as we are. We get at least one more go out at Qualcomm and in San Diego. It is exciting news, so I am fired up.”

Rivers wasn’t the only Charger thrilled about the news. A couple of his teammates took to Twitter to express their excitement about staying in San Diego as well as to implore the team’s fans to express their gratitude for the decision by showing up to Qualcomm Stadium in full force next year.

The Chargers are in agreement with the Rams to join them in L.A. should the team and the city of San Diego not be able to work out a long-term plan for a new stadium. The agreement gives the Chargers a one-year window to decide to join the Rams in their new stadium, set to be built in Inglewood, which expires on Jan. 15, 2017.
