An Adorable Yet Terrifying Possum Interrupted An LSU-Arkansas College Baseball Game

There are plenty of sports where animals are around, sports like horse racing and dog racing and fishing and getting in fist fights with bears (if you do that last one, make sure it’s a sanctioned bear fight for your own safety). There is a much, much longer list of sports where animals are not welcome on the field of play, one of which is baseball, where animals being on the field would end up being a pain in the neck for athletes.

Such an incident happened during a recent college baseball game between LSU and Arkansas. The two sides were just playing some ball, when all of a sudden, a baby possum ran out onto the field and refused to leave. After one of the ESPN commenters made a pretty lame joke about how people in the south view possums as dinner, a few players tried their hardest to get the possum off the field.

Since using your bare hands to pick up a possum is a pretty bad idea, a few people ran out with a bag and a shovel, picked it up, and escorted it off the field. In total, four humans had to surround the little baby possum to capture it.

If you’re reading this, possum, know that I respect your determination not to get caught and also I am impressed with your ability to read English. And if you’re one of the baseball players who tried to pick up the possum, I advise that you don’t do that if you’re ever in that situation again.
