After about a month of deep coverage of Carmelo Anthony leaving the Denver Nuggets in a trade to New Jersey, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov finally folded his hand (probably like one of those Russian dudes playing poker in Bond movies) and said his team would no longer be going after Anthony. Finally, the Nets can stay out of the news for the rest of the season and have no one pay attention to them again.
In what is no surprise, any Carmelo Anthony deal with New Jersey is dead.
Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said before Wednesday night’s home game against Utah he has told his team to end discussions with Denver about trading for the star forward.

“I’m not happy with the way … this deal has gone until now,” Prokhorov told reporters “It has taken too long. It has been played out in public and it certainly has taken a toll on the players, and I believe that it has cost us several games. I think management did a great job, but there comes a time when the price is simply too expensive. I’m instructing our team to walk away from the deal.[“] -NBA Fanhouse.
I bet Anthony could have been convinced to go to the Nets if he had a face-to-face meeting with Prokhorov, but if you think about it, that’s also why he chose not to. Prokhorov looks like the scariest man ever to try and talk with, and I bet Anthony was way too intimidated to attempt to work something out. You know what this whole trade debacle being over means, however: Sacramento Kings, meet your new star! No? You sure?
