The Rams Punter Delivered A Cheap Shot And Then Cowered Away From Payback

It may be the rarest of all football plays possible – no, not a safety or a recovered onside kick or a Hail Mary catch. Nope, we’re talking about a personal foul by a punter. This unicorn appeared during the Seahawks-Rams game in Seattle, when Johnny Hekker decided it was in his best interests to lay into Cliff Avril.

It wasn’t the greatest hit of all-time, but as far as punters laying the wood it’s about as much as can be expected. Avril obviously took exception to this and the stud defensive end immediately went after Hekker, who proceeded to curl up into a ball because Cliff Avril is a bad, bad man.

The episode didn’t end there, though, because when Hekker came back on the field later to punt, Avril was waiting and this time he brought backup. It was then that Avril got more comeuppance as he spooked Hekker yet again, only for Michael Bennett to follow suit, causing the punter to make a business decision and simply flop to the floor.

Yes, punters are football players too but, as Hekker showed us, it’s probably for the best if they just leave the real football plays to the real football players.
