Reason No. 365726 To Dislike Floyd Mayweather

On Saturday night, unparalleled loud mouth and cheap shot artist Floyd Mayweather, Jr. extended his career record to 43-0 after he defeated Miguel Cotto (37-3) by unanimous decision (118-110, 117-111, 117-111) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Since I’m not much of a boxing guy – all my boxing is of the foxy variety – I had to depend on Twitter for fight analysis, and words used to describe Mayweather’s victory included surgical and diabolical, while I just saw things as punchy and huggy.

But the big difference between Mayweather and Cotto came before the fight even began, as the pugilists made their way to the ring with their respective entourages. Cotto came to the ring with his son, a respectable tribute to the inspiration he provides to his own flesh and blood. Mayweather, on the other hand, was joined by Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and… Justin Bieber?

Who says that boxing has forgotten the 13-year old female demographic?

Additionally, the hope for a Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight was once again stabbed in the face. First, Mayweather went on a delightful rant last week to Associated Press reporter Tim Dahlber about accusations that he’s afraid of Pacquiao.

“You all think I’m scared, I’m a coward? Well guess what? I’m a rich, scared coward. I’m a rich coward,” Mayweather said. “And if that’s the case, why the hell would you want to watch me? I don’t want to watch no coward. I don’t want to watch nobody who’s scared and you all know for a fact I’m not scared. You all know that.”

“Writers are saying, `Floyd is scared,’” he said. “No, Floyd cares about his family. Floyd is smart. At the end of the day, Floyd is smart. My health is important. My health is more important than money. They can take all the money and my health is more important. If they say, `Floyd, you can live a healthy life like you is right now, or you got to walk with a limp, and walk all bent over, but you can have a lot of money for the rest of your life,’ I’d say, `Take it all back.’”

“Go back and look at the pictures. First, his head is small. Then, all of a sudden, his head just grew? Come on, man. Stop! Stop this man! Come on, man! This (stuff’s) so easy. Ray Charles can see this (stuff). Come on. Come on, now! Come on, man. I told you, it’s basic common sense. Look at the pictures and tell me this man’s head didn’t get bigger? This man probably went from a seven and one-fourth to an eight. In a hat, a fitted hat. And you’re going to tell me this (stuff) is all natural? Come on, man. Stop this. I’m going up in weight, but I ain’t just walking through no damn fighters.”

Additionally, Mayweather – who is facing jail time for beating his girlfriend, mind you – basically retired on Saturday night.

“There’s really no one for me to fight anymore.”

“I don’t have to fight if I don’t want to,” Mayweather said. “They say to save the best for last, and if this was my last fight, it was a hell of a fight.”

Added Bieber, “Haha, street cred!”
