Louisville’s Rick Pitino Says He Played ‘Four White Guys And An Egyptian’ To Keep From Blowing A Team Out

Louisville routed Savannah State Monday night 87-26 in a game that was a glorified exhibition, a Globetrotters-Generals game if you will. Savannah States scored seven points in the first half. SEVEN! With less than four minutes to play, they had a single free throw to their credit.

In the post game press conference, Louisville coach Rick Pitino was asked if he felt bad for his opponent, and what, if anything he could have done differently to spare them embarrassment.

Pitino responded in kind with “I mean, we played four white guys and an Egyptian. We tried everything.”

The Egyptian, by the way, is 7-foot freshman Anas Mahmoud who hails from Cairo. Like most kids who leaves home, he misses his mom’s food.

American food is not bad, but it’s almost fast food, just burgers, eggs, fries. Even Qdoba is not, like, food. I’m telling you, if you came to Egypt, oh my God. You would gain 20 pounds in two days. I’m telling you. The way Egyptians eat and how they use fats and salt … It’s really tasty.
