The British Comedian Who Made It Rain On Sepp Blatter Has Been Arrested

Simon Brodkin, a British comedian who goes by the stage name of Lee Nelson, delighted us all by interrupting Monday’s FIFA press conference to throw a pile of fake money at the organization’s top sleazeball, President Sepp Blatter. But unfortunately, The Man (in the form of Zurich Police) has stepped in to rain on his prank parade, arresting him and charging him with trespassing, according to the BBC.

As Brodkin’s stunt was (gloriously) captured on video, he doesn’t have much of a defense, though the charge is a minor, straightforward one. A Zurich police spokesperson summed it up as succinctly as possible: “He will be charged for trespassing because he wasn’t allowed to enter the building.” Any chance someone can work up a fake press pass for Brodkin? No one should have to go to jail (even Swiss jail) for clowning on Sepp, not even one as needy as Brodkin, who has a history of inserting himself into major events.

By the way, Brodkin’s fake money was reportedly a way of jokingly suggesting a North Korea bid for the 2026 World Cup, which would be funny if it wasn’t so plausible.
