Let’s Look Back At The Time ‘Sesame Street’ Characters Played The Blackhawks

Welcome to June, where the sun is shining, the weather is hot, and hockey highlights are tough to come by. Fortunately, someone at the Chicago Film Archives recently dusted off an old tape documenting the 1970 Chicago Blackhawks playing hockey against some of Sesame Street‘s finest, and it’s hilarious.

The origin of the bizarre footage seems to be unknown, but the uploader suspects it was born from a Sesame Street commercial or promotional video. Regardless, the Sesame crew — Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Grover and Cookie Monster — look pretty impressive out there. My scouting report says Big Bird plays with high energy, but needs to work on his puck handling skills, Cookie Monster is solid in net, but may have some character issues, while Grover has high hockey IQ and is a great finisher.

With the NHL looking at expansion in the coming years, new teams may want to start scouting Sesame Street in hopes of putting together a solid core.
