TCU’s Punter Got This Kick Off Despite Getting Absolutely Destroyed By Shawn Oakman

There are two ways of looking at this play from Friday night’s Big 12 showdown between the Baylor Bears and the TCU Horned Frogs. The first way involves star Baylor defensive linemen Shawn Oakman. The 6-foot-9, 275 pound beast of a defensive end was on the Bears’ punt team, and looked like he was waiting for TCU’s Ethan Perry to get a punt away before turning into a blocker.

Instead, Perry dropped the snap, and Oakman saw a chance to blow up the play. He ended up sprinting towards Perry and lighting up TCU’s punter, driving him to the ground and killing the Horned Frogs’ chance of pinning Baylor deep into its own end zone. It’s another play that you can add to Oakman’s lengthy highlight reel.

The second way of looking at this is “oh my god Ethan Perry somehow got a punt off despite being devoured by Shawn Oakman.” It wasn’t the most impressive punt of all time, but considering how Perry somehow got it away despite having the most physically intimidating college football player in America swarming him, it’s actually kind of amazing that he got a punt off that went for positive yardage.

In an evening where Perry kicked the ball a lot – he punted 12 times and was declared the real MVP by TCU athletics’ Twitter account – his most impressive punt may have been the one that only went eight yards.
