You Will Squirm Watching This Soccer Player Slide Nuts-First Into The Post

Most sports fans would struggle to find a reason to watch highlights of a soccer match that takes place on anything but the highest level of the game. However, this one is certainly worth watching, even if it is only for a few seconds of entertainment, bewilderment and the feeling of overwhelming sympathy.

On Saturday, a match between Puerto Rico FC and Miami FC in the NASL (North American Soccer League) finished with a 3-0 victory for the host squad in south Florida. The second goal scored by Miami FC, though, is where the interest for this video comes in and, at the 50-second mark of the clip above, a defender from Puerto Rico FC has an unfortunate encounter with the goal post.

He is desperately trying to keep the offense from putting the ball in the back of the net, to the point where he misjudges his slide and, well, ends up wrapped around the unforgiving piece of metal. No one would ever wish this sort of misfortune on an athlete, and while shots of this magnitude are not terribly uncommon, this is definitely a new brand of punishment.

There are multiple relays of the incident and, for at least one NASL player, this is an event that will not soon be forgotten.
