Tim Tebow Will Be Welcome Back At ESPN When His Comeback Fails Again

Tim Tebow is back in the NFL, thanks to Chip Kelly’s largesse (which is nearing eccentric billionaire status at this point). But as we try to understand the impossibly complex workings of Kelly’s Rube Goldberg-esque offseason, won’t anyone think of the poor lost souls at ESPN and SEC Network Tebow leaves behind?

Well, fret not, because ESPN Programming Executive John Wildhack issued a press release today, which reads:

“We appreciate Tim’s contributions to the launch of SEC Network and wish him all the best as he pursues his NFL dream. Tim quickly established a tremendous rapport with everyone he worked with in front of and behind the camera. He has a tireless work ethic and a unique passion for football. Tim developed quickly into an excellent analyst. He has a home at ESPN when his playing career is done.”

Whoa, watch your back Mort, because Wildhack threw down some insider knowledge. Tebow’s work ethic is well-known (or at least widely assumed), but his passion for football is “unique.” How is his football passion different from all other football passions? One can only imagine (and no, we’re not doing a Jesus joke here. How dare you).

It’s not at all surprising to see that Tim Tebow hasn’t burned any bridges at ESPN, who would surely welcome back to the staff someone who was Forbes’ Most Influential Athlete (US division) as recently as 2013. The question is merely how soon we’ll see Tebow back at the Worldwide Leader — mid-August? Late August? (Gasp) September?
